Obituary: We Bid Our All-Time Favorite Game Farewell!
RandyRun grew up with Diablo 2; we truly owe much to D2! How closely we’re tied to Diablo 2 can be seen in our enormous product selection.
We were leaders when it came to selling Diablo 2 items, at least on the European market there were no other merchants with comparable know-how. We stand in awe before the greatest action role-playing games of all time!
But all good things must come to an end. D2 is really getting on in years. We want to make room in our shop for new things. There are already fantastic successors that carry the Diablo 2 spirit in many ways: Whether it’s Diablo 3, Torchlight 2 or (the very promising descendant of D2) Path of Exile!
Diablo 2 is a multiple award-winning action roleplaying game classic from Blizzard. Diablo 2 advanced constantly year after year to become one of the most successful RPGs ever, if nothing else thanks to the online gaming platform “battle.net”. No other game can come up with such an insane amount of weapons and items (thousands of different Diablo 2 items exist, in addition to normal items, there are “rare items”, “unique items”, and “set items” and also many “runes” and “charms”) Despite its simple hack’n’slay game mechanic, Diablo 2 provides a compelling and dark atmosphere.
One of the strengths of the game is the excellent balanced character classes and the first-class long-term maintenance: Blizzard delivers new Diablo 2 patches to this day and starts special ladder seasons regularly for gaming competition. Diablo 2 seems to be immortal – Can Diablo 3 surpass its predecessor?
Story
Diablo, the dark Lord of Terror has returned – and this time with his brothers in tow. In the first game, Diablo had possessed a young prince and was defeated by a hero. Thanks to a sly trick, Diablo was able to possess the body of the victorious hero, who now wanders around as the trouble causing wanderer. It’s up to you to stop Diablo before he can awake his two brothers Mephisto (Lord of Hatred) and Baal (Lord of Destruction).
The story is separated into 4 acts (5 with the expansion) with 6 quests each, which can be quite challenging in higher difficulties. Besides the beginner difficulty “normal”, you can play the game in the “nightmare” and “hell” versions as well. In the “hell” version, enemies are not only hellishly strong, but are often completely immune to certain types of attacks.
Game Experience
Travel through different landscapes: from Forest and Grasslands, through jungles and deserts, into underground cave systems all the way to the northern ice regions. In the classic game, you have 5 classes to choose from for your adventure (Amazon, Barbarian, Sorceress, Paladin, and Necromancer). Two extra classes were introduced in the expansion set (Druid and Assassin). Choose your favorite class and go up again countless monsters: Legions of different undead, demons, and other terrors await you. Find hidden treasures and countless weapons, armor suits, and magic items. Gather experience and level up all the way to level 99. Use mercenaries to support you in battle. You can even equip them (in the Expansion) with weapons and armor.
You also have the exciting multiplayer mode, in which you can play together with your friends. Besides the good old Lan session, you can also slay monsters with up to 8 gamers together via Battle.net. Or you could just battle one another after you hit Level 9 (free for all or in teams).
Character Classes
The Amazon guarantees gaming fun for all bow and arrow freaks, and she can even skilled with a spear. From massive arrow hail or magically charged shots (i.e., frost arrow) the sky is the limit.
The Barbarian is a strongman: He can equip fearsome barbarian helms, or simultaneously wield two two-handed weapons and he can also wreak true havoc with Warcries and Whirlwinds.
The holy Paladin takes care of the minions of evil with auras and lightning bolts from the heavens. He can use special scepters and paladin shields.
The Sorceress works with elemental magic: Ice, Lightning, and Fire are her tools. She can teleport herself and use magic wands.
The Necromancer awakes golems, skeletons, or fallen enemies to life, calls forth walls of bone, and abuses shrunken heads as a shield.
Druids can transform themselves into a wolf or a bear, summon a few wild animals as companions and know how to use the powers of nature to his advantage. They also have their own druid helmets.
Assassins grace their opponents with far-eastish martial arts, combination attacks, nasty traps, and special mental abilities – she uses claw-class weapons best.
